Highlanders 0 Dynamos 1
Dynamos beat impressive Bulawayo giants, Highlanders in a Venture Challenge Cup encounter at Rufaro Stadium this afternoon.
The match was the resumption of an old age rivalry between the two giants of domestic football.
When the game got underway, an intriguing duel ensued as Dynamos and Highlanders tried to outmuscle each other early on in a bid to grab the match by the scruff of the neck.
Dynamos stun Highlanders when they took the lead in the 8th minute through Denver Mukamba, who scored direct from a corner kick.
Instead of retreating into a shell as a result of the early setback, the goal nevertheless galvanised Highlanders into immediate action as the Bulawayo giants upped the tempo in bid to level proceedings.
Despite a wonderful passing game that saw Highlanders matching Dynamos man for man, scoring chances did not come Bosso's way.
Highlanders' best chance to restore parity came in the 42nd minute but the Dynamos rearguard was alert to avert danger with a goal line clearance.
Highlanders almost stole a dramatic equaliser on the stroke of full time when Lawson Nkomo let fly a stinging shot from a free kick but Dynamos goalkeeper, Knowledge Jimu was on hand to preserve Dynmaos lead with a good save.
No further goals were scored to ensure Dynamos emerged triumphant by a solitary goal.
Dynamos coach, Lloyd Mutasa and Highlanders mentor, Mkupali Masuku both expressed satisfaction with their teams' performance.
"It was a good game for us. The win, which ensured yet another trophy, was important for the young guys as it is confidence booster ahead of the domestic premiership as well as the African safari," Mutasa said.
"A good game indeed, we missed a lot of chances and we were punished for that. We will work from this game to ensure that we have a good run this forthcoming season," Bosso coach, Mkupali Masuku said.
Although Highlanders lost, the Bulawayo giants proved that there's life after the departure of several key players such as Joel and Zephaniah Ngodzo, Protasho Kabwe, Francis Kanda and Menard Mupera, by putting up a polished display that gave an indication that they will be a competitive unit this forthcoming season.
