THE oldest player in the domestic Premiership, Chipo Tsodzo, has been named the interim coach at Quelaton. Tsodzo's first assignment is against Harare giants in Castle Lager Premiership tie at Rufaro on Sunday.
The ageless player was given the role to lead the technical team after bottom-placed Quelaton parted ways with Philani Ncube on Tuesday.
Tsodzo, who had hoped to feature in the match as player, will now be directing operations from the bench after he was appointed the interim player/coach.
Quelaton director Tawanda Ruzive yesterday said the utility player will be assisted by Farai Sibanda.
"In the interim, we have appointed Chipo Tsodzo as coach of the team.
"He has been playing for us but now he has a new role and will be assisted by Farai Sibanda.
"Sibanda was in the set-up as an assistant to Beefy (Ncube)," said Ruzive.
Ncube had joined the side in June after taking over from Farai Sibanda.
Running on a pair of 36-year-old legs, Tsodzo is the oldest player in the Castle Lager Premiership at the moment and is nicknamed Jack Roller.
With several caps for the Warriors, Tsodzo is currently the most loyal player in the league after starting off at Zimbabwe Saints in the mid-1990s.
At Chikwata, Tsodzo played as a forward and he later joined Masvingo United, Mwana Africa, Highlanders and Hwange and was comfortable also playing as a defender.
Tsodzo is not under any pressure as he leads the underdogs against Dynamos. In the last meeting between the two sides, David Kutyauripo's lone goal made the difference and Quelaton could also draw inspirational from another struggling side Blue Rangers who held Dynamos last weekend. Ruzive said all hope has not been lost in their battle against relegation. It's the first time that we have been playing in the top league and we have been on a learning curve.
"Technically, we are still with a chance to survive and all hope has not been lost yet," said Ruzive.
Ruzive believes Quelaton struggled to get into the groove from the start because of limited resources.
The match between Quelaton and DeMbare will be the only tie fixtured for capital on Sunday.
