CASTLE Lager Premier Soccer League 2012 runners up, Highlanders will offload some of their players as they try and accommodate new players they want for the forthcoming season set to begin during the second week of March.
This was revealed by the executive chairman, Peter Dube in his keynote address during the club's emotionally charged annual general meeting held at the Highlanders clubhouse yesterday.
It will be the second time in six months that the club offloads players after a similar exercise during the mid season transfer window last year when the likes of promising central back, Tendai Ndlovu and Munyaradzi Tongai were loaned to Division One teams while ZPC (Hwange) striker Cleopas Dube and Tapuwa Kapini's younger brother Takunda Sadiki were brought on board.
"Plans are in place to beef up our squad and we must bear in mind this will necessitate offloading a few players to create room for these replacements," said the chairman, Dube in his reports to the over 200 members that attended the meeting.
He did not reveal the names of the players that are likely to be offloaded and the number that will part ways with the Kelvin Kaindu coached black and white side but indications are that some of the players who never featured much last year could be victims.
Coach Kaindu indicated some weeks ago that there were two fellow Zambians that he had spotted and funds permitting, the duo could be of immense value to the club as they seek to wrest the league title from their arch rivals Dynamos.
Tshilamoya roped in a massive 12 players last season with most of them signing two-year contracts save for midfielder Simon Munawa and all-weather defender Bruce Tshuma.
They have however been retained and so far they are the only players guaranteed to be at Bosso this season.
Highlanders retained all their 2012 players, making them the pre-season favourites with football experts and analysts to clinch this season's Castle Lager league title.
Former Caps United and Ajax Cape Town striker, Alois Bunjira publicly stated that Bosso are odds-on favourites to lift the title for the first time in seven years but advised the club to buy a top notch striker in the mould of FC Platinum gunman, Donald Ngoma.
"Highlanders have started their preparations for the 2013 season under coach Kelvin Kaindu. They have retained all their players from last season.
"My money is on Highlanders to win the 2013 league title, if and only if they get a goal scorer. They lost the championship not because Dynamos were better than them but simply because they did not have a striker to score goals for them, if they had, they could have won at least one of their nine drawn games and claimed the title.
"Highlanders did everything else except score goals. My suggestion for Highlanders, Donald Ngoma," wrote Bunjira on his facebook wall.
