HIGHLANDERS FC are set to be without their head coach Kelvin Kaindu for a second consecutive week as the Zambian expatriate is travelling for a Premiership refresher coaching course which starts today in Harare.
Kaindu, who spent last week in Zambia sorting his passport, was expected in Bulawayo yesterday.
In his absence, assistant coach Bekithemba Ndlovu and the goalkeepers' gaffer Tembo Chuma were in charge of the team. Highlanders played a friendly match against Gwanda Ramblers at Pelandaba Stadium and lost 2-1 at the weekend.
Kaindu will join other Premiership head coaches and assistants for the week-long refresher course.
According to an e-mail sent by the Premier Soccer League chief executive Kennedy Ndebele yesterday, Kaindu and Ndlovu are part of the 39 coaches, including eight from the national teams.
The unavailability of Kaindu means that goalkeepers' coach Chuma will be in charge ahead of the final leg of the Bob 89 Super Cup final on Sunday against Dynamos.
Highlanders lost the first leg which was played at Barbourfields Stadium 2-1 and they are hoping to overturn the scoreline so that they take home the $100 000 prizemoney for winners.
Should they lose the final, they will walk away with $70 000.
Participants that have been recommended by Zifa are the senior team's manager Shariff Musa, Warriors' assistant coaches Lloyd Mutasa and Nkululeko Dhlamini, Mighty Warriors' head coach Rosemary Mugadza, Sithethelelwe Sibanda, Maxwell Takaendesa, Langton Giwa and national Under-20 gaffer Jairos Tapera.
Erich Rutemoller, the former German men's national team assistant coach, chief instructor for the German Football Association, Fifa instructor and former coach of top Bundesliga club Cologne FC, is the refresher course facilitator.
In an interview yesterday, Ndebele said everything was set for the Nyaradzo Funeral Holdings sponsored coaching clinic.
"Information has been sent to respective clubs and the coaches should be checking in for the course tomorrow.
"We are grateful to Nyaradzo Funeral Holdings for this gesture that is meant to develop our league. The idea is to have such coaching courses before the start of every season," said Ndebele.
