United States- based former Amazulu and Warriors striker, Patrick Daka has urged parents to support soccer from grass-roots level.
"I have witnessed here, American parents are the main source of success in sporting events. They push hard their children to participate in grass-roots sporting events and when a kid is involved in such initiatives there is a bright future ahead for them," said the former player.
"This is the main reason we are witnessing success of sport over here. Our children are very talented, but we need to make sure they are not misguided along the way by keeping them in sporting academies where they will be professional guided on a daily bases. My son Tendai, together with Joseph Kabwe's son, Praise are involved in grassroots soccer with Charlotte Soccer Academy where I am a Technical Director," added Daka
Also running his 'Daka Soccer Academy', Daka is involved in nurturing youngsters back at home.
"Every year in June, I run workshops for young-players in Harare and Chitungwiza where I teach them basics of understanding football. I am working with youngsters from 5-18 years with the hope of developing the beautiful game. I also work the Black Aces Academy in career and talent development," said Daka
Daka also played for Black Aces before migrating to USA on a study scholarship where he joined Charlotte Eagles in the USL-Pro Division One league in 2004.
He captained them for four years, before his elevation which saw him being promoted to assistant player coach role in 2007. He final he hung up his boots in 2009.
