Highlanders  2 - 0 Harare City
BULAWAYO giants Highlanders needed two second half goals from Njabulo Ncube and Peter Moyo to beat a wasteful Harare City in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Barbourfields yesterday.

Ncube scored his second league goal for Bosso in the 67th minute, a goal that sparked wild celebrations from the terraces as he intelligently sold a dummy to Harare City's defender Edgar Tapela to face the visitors' goalkeeper Maxwell Nyamupangendengu before beating the national team second choice at the near post.

The goal came from Highlanders' first attempt at the Harare City's goalkeeper who had spent the better part of the afternoon a spectator compared to Bossos' Munyaradzi Diya who drew five brilliant saves to keep the home team in the game.

Six minutes before fulltime, Moyo made sure that Highlanders take maximum points with a fine shot inside the box.

Ncube who had a brilliant second half performance was involved in the build up to the goal as he shielded his marker before laying the ball onto the path of Milton Ncube who unselfishly set through an unmarked Moyo who coolly slotted the ball past a hapless Nyamupangedengu.

Moyo had in the 72nd minute earned himself a yellow card after trying the famous "hand of God" to score but the referee Nkosana Nduna was spot on.

While the scorers may have hogged the limelight, Diya also deserved plaudits for keeping Highlanders in the game with some great saves.

The former Zimbabwe Saints goalkeeper who spent last season deputising Ariel Sibanda yesterday became an instant darling to the hard to please Highlanders supporters with his heroic saves.

Harare City's skipper Godfrey Nguwodzawo held his hand in disbelief 12 minutes into the game when Diya dived to his right to push his goal bound shot for a corner.

From the resultant corner kick, Raymond Uchena's volley off a rebound was parried over the bar by Diya.

The Highlanders goalkeeper then reacted quickly in the 26th minute to deny Nathan Ziwini a goal after the Sunshine Boys had capitalised on a defensive mix-up by Bosso central defenders Innocent Mapuranga and Dumisani Ndlovu.

A minute before the hour mark Diya went airborne to tip a dipping Ziwini shot and later denied Talent Chawapihwa a goal when he stretched his hand to push the ball to safety.

Five minutes before fulltime the Highlanders goalkeeper again denied the visitors a consolation goal, going airborne to punch a ferocious Nguwodzawo free-kick.

Highlanders' coach Kelvin Kaindu was impressed with his team's performance and heaped praises to Diya's exploits as well as Njabulo.
