HIGHLANDERS and Shabanie Mine have been summoned to appear before the Premier Soccer League Disciplinary Committee for crowd trouble that occurred during the two teams' encounter at Maglas Stadium on Good Friday.
According to summons sent to both clubs yesterday by the PSL, Highlanders is facing a charge of throwing missiles to the pitch while Shabanie Mine as the hosts are accused of failing to provide adequate security.
In his report to the match commissioner Japhet Mfiri said trouble started in the 21st minute when referee Masakadza Makonese turned down a penalty appeal by Highlanders and cautioned Knox Mutizwa for simulation. This decision seems to have not gone well with Bosso fans who threw missiles.
Makonese said it took 24 minutes for the police to restore order.
"...The Match Commissioner informed the police leader to assist in restoring sanity who in turn responded by telling the match commissioner to let me wait resume the match because the police details present had no protective equipment. Those equipped were outside the stadium attending to some disturbances. Some police officers were reported to have been sent to the station to collect the appropriate equipment."
"We resumed the match after the arrival of heavily equipped police details with shields after a stoppage of 24 minutes," wrote Makonese.
Violence continued after the match with Shabanie Mine supporters said to have ambushed Bosso fans hitting and damaging their vehicles with stones.
