Debutants declare war on Bosso

PREMIER Soccer League (PSL) debutants Triangle FC have declared war on Bulawayo giants Highlanders FC when the two teams lock horns in a league match at Gibbo Stadium in Triangle this afternoon.
The game, which kicks off at 3 pm, is likely to be a thriller considering that both teams posted emphatic victories in their previous matches.
Triangle won convincingly against an out of sorts Shabanie Mine FC when they clobbered them 3-0 at their citadel while Bosso sent Harare City packing on a 2-0 score line at their favourite hunting ground Barbourfields Stadium.
The lowveld team coach Gishon "Gizha" Ntini yesterday said they respect their opponents since Highlanders are a big institution but they are not afraid of the former champions.
"It is a known fact that Highlanders is a big team and we respect them but one thing for sure is that we don't fear any team. We will have our own 11 players against the same number and I don't think they will prevail over us. We have prepared for the match and my boys are raring to go," he said.
Gizha said he had faith in his charges and with the kind of support from the home fans, beating big teams remains one of their major objectives.
"Last week, we played Shabanie, which is equally a competitive side and sent them back with tails between their legs. I hope to carry on from where we left last week. We are receiving good support from the fans and we expect them to rally behind the team like they always do. The support will make the boys' job easier on the field as we want to beat all the big teams this season to show our pedigree. In fact it is our major objective and Highlanders will be very unfortunate.
"We have a young but talented side and my players are hungry for success. I also have a talented youngster, Pasca Mahanya, who is the team's cog in midfield," Ntini said.
Former Caps United striker Limited Chikafa was the toast of the day for Triangle when he scored a double against the asbestos miners and is among the experienced players at Triangle.
Other seasoned players at Triangle include David Maketo Sengu, Brian Mapfumo and Leo Kurauzvione.
The Bulawayo giants invade Gibbo Stadium for the first time in their illustrious 87-year history this afternoon.
Highlanders left Bulawayo yesterday afternoon boosted by the return to fitness of workaholic right back Bruce Tshuma although vice skipper Erick Mudzingwa is still out injured.
"We are ready for the match and our focus now is this match not what happened 33 years ago when this team visited that territory," said Kaindu before departure.
He said they would not look too much into history, especially that which is not so good.
"History shall always remain history although it's important. If you look at last year, we were able to collect maximum points in venues where previously the team had failed," said Kaindu.
The Zambian expatriate took with him the same team that did duty against Harare City and won 2-0 through goals from Njabulo Ncube and Peter "Rio" Moyo.
Ncube will once again lead the Highlanders strike force together with his surname sake Graham as Bosso pursue their third set of maximum points. Since they are playing away from home, Kaindu might opt to drop Graham a little bit behind Njabulo with Douglas Sibanda likely to start together with Mthulisi Maphosa. Sibanda is good defensively, while Maphosa is always deadly when venturing forward. That will see Simon Munawa being relegated to the bench.
With two points from as many games, Hwange travel to the city of Mutare for a date with another army side, Buffaloes, at Sakubva Stadium tomorrow afternoon. The coalminers were however still making frantic efforts yesterday to get licences for two of their players who are yet to play this season.
"Eric Sipepa and Evans Rusike still do not have their licences. We hope those documents will be out ahead of the match," said Hwange coach Nation Dube.
On the preparatory side, the cool talking Dube said they know the kind of game they will get from the Saul Chaminuka-coached soldiers but were prepared for them.
"We take every game as it comes and this one is no different. First games are always tricky as the boys will be playing together for the first time but with time they will gel," said Dube, who is being assisted by Brian Njovu.
The duo put together a team moulded on youth and experience and once they manage to hold their own in these first few matches, then many a team will have difficult moments.
One of the longest serving goalkeepers on the domestic scene, Timothy Sibanda, defenders David Boriwondo and Gerald Ndlovu will be the stabilising forces while veteran striker Gilbert Zulu, so full of fighting spirit even when the chips are down, will lead the attack.
Young leftback Craven Banda, operating like a veteran in that area, is again set to start and if he keeps his cool and refuse to let publicity get to his head, could see him donning national team colours soon. Last week against Black Rhinos, he scored a beautiful free kick, beating an experienced Britto Gwere all systems out.
At Luveve Stadium this afternoon, Chicken Inn play host to winless Tripple B who are finding the Premiership action hard to adapt to. Chicken Inn go into today's game buoyed by their one-all draw with defending champions Dynamos in Harare last week while Tripple B are still looking for their first points having lost their opening matches 2-0 against How Mine and 2-1 at home to Black Mambas.
The Gamecocks and Tshintsha Magiya match will be screened live on Supersport.
Tomorrow, How Mine takes on Monomotapa at Luveve Stadium and their encounter will be televised live.
