HIGHLANDERS coach Kevin Kaindu is upbeat ahead of the clash against old foes Dynamos in the invitational Independence Day Trophy at the National Sports Stadium tomorrow.

The two teams were handpicked to play in the tournament after funding problems forced Zifa to cancel the semi-finals.

Zifa had announced last week that the country's top four teams from last season would play semi-finals on Tuesday this week, with the winners meeting in the final on Thursday.

Highlanders were due to play Chicken Inn in Bulawayo, with Dynamos scheduled to meet Monomotapa in Harare.

However, Zifa have fixtured Monomotapa to battle it out against Chicken Inn in another match in Bulawayo.

Defending champions FC Platinum were excluded from this year's tournament as they failed to finish among the top four last season.

Tomorrow's meeting will be the third between the two teams. They last met back in February with Dynamos triumphing 6-1 on aggregate to lift the Bob 89 Super Cup.
The first leg in Bulawayo had ended 2-1 in favour of Dynamos with the return leg ending in a 4-0 defeat of Kaindu's men.

However, the Bosso coach said their defeat in the Bob 89 Super Cup was now part of their history and were looking to make amends.

"It's unfortunate we lost in the Bob 89 Super Cup, but this is a different cup altogether. The chances are 50-50. The better team on the day will win," he said.

Kaindu said they would not read much into Dynamos current poor run in which they have drawn four times in their four league matches while Highlanders have won three and losing just once against Motor Action recently.

"Those things do not count. What matters is how you perform on the day. It's the better team of the day that will win," said Kaindu.

Both teams are likely to field near full strength squads as they will also face each other in the big league game at Rufaro on Sunday.

Kaindu said he would field some of the players in the Independence Cup final and rest others for the league clash.
