BULAWAYO soccer giants Highlanders have formally lodged a complaint with the Premier Soccer League expressing their displeasure on how referee Norman Matemera handled their game against Dynamos at Rufaro Stadium.

The encounter ended in a one-all draw after Dynamos equalised with the last kick of the game through defender Patson Jaure.

Njabulo Ncube had put the Bulawayo giants ahead six minutes after the breather when he rifled home a rising shot and it stayed like that until 98 minutes.

In a rather embarrassing action, referee of the day Matemera who in February was one of the four referees who failed a fitness test added a controversial four minutes to the initial four minutes of added time.

The game was beamed live on pay-per-view channel Supersport.

In an interview yesterday, the Highlanders chairman Peter Dube said they have since made a formal complaint to the PSL on how Matemera handled the game.

"We sat down as an executive and made our complaint in writing about the inept handling of our game against Dynamos by the referee of the day.  We respect the referee's decision and we are aware that the centre man has the final say but we feel that there were many instances that he failed us.

"We know the result won't change but it is proper to register our complaint with the league so that it is documented and we are doing so in the best interest of football.

"One has to bear in mind that ugly scenes like that have a negative impact on our football and we have to bear in mind the sponsors who are investing so much in the game and do not want their corporate images to be compromised," said Dube.

The veteran administrator took time to applaud his supporters who kept their calm even after the referee had spoiled their day.

"We are grateful to our supporters and the Dynamos followers who maintained their respect for each other as well as the referee's decision. Despite what happened on the field of play, the two sets of supporters embraced each other and we believe that if football is portrayed like that, only then will our football improve," said Dube.

With the draw against Dynamos, Bosso find themselves on 10 points, two behind leaders FC Platinum who lost the Battle of Zvishavane Part One on Sunday when they fell by a solitary strike from Shabanie Mine's Farai Mususunye.

Police side Black Mambas are level with Highlanders but sit on position three due to an inferior goal difference.

Highlanders will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways when they play host to army side Black Rhinos at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday.

Black Rhinos are no pushovers and they drew two-all with Motor Action in their last match.
