HIGHLANDERS registered their second win of the season when they subdued Gunners in a lively Castle Lager Premiership encounter at Lafarge Stadium in Harare on Friday.

A brace from former Railstars and Motor Action hitman Njabulo "JB" Ncube ensured Amahlolanyama had another successful outing in the capital in the space of 96 hours after dispatching old nemesis Dynamos in the Uhuru Cup final on Monday.

Buoyed by a bumper crowd, Ncube drew first blood as early as the 10th minute when the stocky finisher latched on to the end of a move involving midfield supremo Erick Mudzingwa and Rahman Kutsanzira before neatly slotting past a stranded Patrick Chigumba in goals for the 2009 champions.

Gunners were dealt a double blow when they were forced into injury-induced substitutions after losing the gangly former CAPS United striker Leonard Tsipa.

Gunners came out firing in the second half and were duly rewarded in the 59th minute when Ishmael Lawe found Nathan Ziwini in the box. Zuwini, in turn, roasted Innocent Mapuranga with some fancy footwork and left Lawson Nkomo for dead before placing the ball beyond Makwavarara's reach.

Ncube restored Bosso's lead in the 79th minute when a cheeky Mudzingwa dummy found Ncube who twisted and turned his marker before unleashing a scorcher, which nestled in the far corner of the post.

Gunners team manager Wellington Mupandare said they lost to a better team and the early injury setback affected their rhythm.

"With a little bit of precision in front of goal, we could have bagged the three points but credit goes to Highlanders for a fine performance," he said.

Highlanders coach Mkhupali Masuku saluted his charges for putting up a well-polished act amid difficult pitch conditions.

"The combinations are coming up now and the idea is to minimise the loss of points on the road and try to win the majority of our home fixtures," he said.
