INGWEBU Breweries have revealed their sponsorship package of $35 000 for this year's instalment of the Ingwebu Primary Schools Soccer Tournament which kicks off next month.

Announcing the sponsorship deal which is an improvement from the $30 000 that the opaque beer manufacturers poured into the tournament last year, Ingwebu Breweries

spokesperson Nkosana Ndlovu said they were dedicated to the development of grassroots soccer as shown by their continued support of the tournament.

"We are trying to ensure that the sponsorship grows, our wish is to do even more but we are doing what finances can allow. We are expecting good standards from this year's tournament which is the second fully fledged since its return," said Ndlovu.

According to Ndlovu, the overall winners of the tournament will pocket $2 500 that comes with a trophy with $2 000 going to the runners-up. The team finishing third in this year's tournament will get a reward of $1 500 and the fourth place prize is $1 200.

The tournament kicks off with the provincial finals for Matabeleland South at Mvuthu Primary School in Esigodini on 12 July. Up next will be the finals for Bulawayo Metropolitan Province to be staged at White City Stadium on 17 July to be followed by the Matabeleland North finals two days later at Jotsholo Primary School.

White City Stadium is the venue for the grand final on 2 August where Bulawayo as the host province will provide two teams, the provincial champions and the runners-up to be joined by the champions from Matabeleland South and Matabeleland North.

Induba Primary School from Bulawayo won last year's tournament with a 1-0 triumph over Mkhalipe of Gwanda in the final played at Pelandaba Stadium in Gwanda.

The tournament started in 1994 and is competed for by all primary schools in Bulawayo, Matabeleland North and Matabeleland South. The competition temporarily stopped in 2009 and 2011 due to what Ingwebu called financial limitations only to make a comeback in 2011 where it was played for by provincial select sides and won by Bulawayo who defeated Matabeleland South 1-0 in the final at Tsholotsho Business Centre.
