Black Mambas 3 - 2 Chicken Inn
A spirited Black Mambas condemned visiting Chicken Inn to their first defeat in 10 games in a five-goal thrilling Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Morris Depot yesterday.
Chicken Inn succumbed to a gallant Mambas side thanks to well taken goals by Frank Banda, Patrick Muswere and Tsepo Rantokoane.
The Gamecocks, who looked ordinary in the absence of the three key players, top scorer, Tendai Ndoro (Warriors duty), captain Felix Chindungwe (Warriors duty) and Kuda Mahachi (suspension) got their goals from veteran striker Mkhokheli Dube and newboy Clemence Matawu.
Matawu's fine afternoon however ended in horror as he had to be ferried to hospital after sustaining a deep cut above his right eye when he clashed with Black Mambas left back, Tendai Chinungo in the 70th minute.
Save for that sad incident, it was Mambas who showed more determination and opened the scores after 19 minutes when Banda tapped home in a goal mouth melee.
Barely had the Mambas fans' celebrations ended when the veteran Dube equalized, heading home a long free kick from the left by Brian Mbiriri in the 24th minute.
Muswere then restored the home side's lead seven minutes from the breather with a ferocious swerving long range drive that went in off the upright post and left Chicken Inn goalie, beating a diving Njabulo Nyoni all systems out.
The impressive Muswere's booming shots were a cause for concern for the Gamecocks as one of his thunderous drives hit the cross bar after only 14 minutes.
The visitors showed more composure in the second half with the nimble footed Canaan Nkomo dishing out some eye catching cross field passes and were rewarded on the hour mark when Matawu rattled the nets after Mambas keeper, Tonderayi Mateyaunga had fumbled a lame shot by Danny Phiri.
But Warumwa Warumwa had other ideas and regained the lead four minutes later through the boot of Rantokoane. Chicken Inn coach, Mandla "Lulu" Mpofu admitted his players did not show enough to warrant their title aspirants tag and also bemoaned the absence of his key trio.
