HIGHLANDERS' principal sponsors, BancABC, have opened up contract extension talks with the Bulawayo giants after expressing satisfaction with their two-year marriage so far.
BancABC's contract with Highlanders is set to expire at the end of the year but the Peter Dube-led executive has been thrown a lifeline after a senior official at the bank confirmed their willingness for another dance with the 2006 league champions.
"The process is already in motion with Highlanders, we have already sent out letters to the club to say let us have a round table meeting and discuss," said BancABC's marketing manager Muriel Dowa.
She said the bank is happy with their dealings with Highlanders in the last two years and has no regrets whatsoever, largely due to the Bulawayo giants' adherence to good corporate governance with books of accounts presented to members twice a year.
"As a bank we would like to continue that relationship with Highlanders. The last two years have been a learning curve for us and hopefully Highlanders too so we have asked them to furnish us with what they would like the bank to do. I cannot at this stage say for sure how long the new deal will be but we are definitely willing to extend the existing one," said Dowa.
BancABC pays salaries of players and the technical staff led by Zambian Kelvin Kaindu with the club taking care of winning bonuses only.
During Highlanders end of year awards last year, then BancABC country head of marketing Cynthia Chizwina told invited guests that the bank was even willing to fund the club's vibrant junior teams.
Highlanders boss Dube confirmed the latest development which will surely come as a relief to the entire black and white family.
"We are talking to our principal sponsors and for now, that is all I can say," said Dube.
The confirmation of contract renewal by the bank will now make it easy for the club to also entice their coach Kaindu into extending his contract which is also set to expire at the end of the year.
Sources revealed that Kaindu has been hesitant to pen a new deal with Highlanders without a concrete source of funding for his remuneration.
"Kaindu has been hesitant because of that. He has however told the club of his personal demands in terms of players for next year in the event that he stays.
Top among them are Charles Sibanda, Joel Ngodzo and Welcome Ndiweni who have less than six months of their contracts remaining at FC Platinum," said the source.
BancABC also sponsors last year's double league and cup winners Dynamos and police side Black Mambas.
Besides BancABC, Highlanders also enjoys sponsorship from leading funeral assurance company Nyaradzo that provides the club's supporters with free transport to their team's away games.
Nyaradzo is also set to buy Highlanders a bus as part of the sponsorship package.
