YOU have to feel for Highlanders coach Kelvin Kaindu who turned 36 on Wednesday but saw his dreams of a perfect birthday present yesterday being wrecked by a very late goal at Morris Depot as Bosso's league championship campaign took another dent.

The Bulawayo giants, chasing their first league title in seven years, have only won once in a poor run of six league games, in which they have lost three times, and yesterday the patience of their fans finally ran out and they turned their guns on Kaindu who was showered with all sorts of abuse.

The former champions fell to an 89th minute strike from defender Paul Mazaranye who made the best of a ball from a free-kick taken by Patrick Muswere and found the target to plunge the dagger into the hearts of the Bosso faithful.

The late goal came after the visitors had dominated show in the second half in what was a rather subdued Castle Lager Premiership encounter.

Black Mambas goalkeeper Tonderai Mateyaunga was forced to make a number of good reflexes in the match.

The victory was also a perfect send-off for the police side, which is set to fly out of Harare today, as part of team Zimbabwe for the Southern African Regional Police Chiefs Corporation Organisation Games in Namibia.

Kaindu said all they need is a win to lift their morale.

Apart from the 1-0 victory against Hwange in the last league action it has been all bleak for the title-chasing team.

"It is unfortunate that we didn't score and at one time we felt we could have got a penalty. It is still a long way to go and l think we just need one win," said Kaindu.

"It is there in football (poor form) and you cannot always sail smoothly. Everyone expected us to win today (yesterday) and there was a lot of pressure coming into this game.

"But all the teams, especially those behind, are now playing well to pick points."

The coach could not be drawn to discuss the criticism he received from the fans who rained all sorts of insults in his direction.

He said football fans were an emotional lot who expected to win in all the matches.

Surprisingly, the Zambian mentor chose to start the match with his key players Masimba Mambare and Mthulisi Maphosa on the bench and that could have been one of the issues that irked the fans.

Black Mambas assistant coach, Martin Bonyongwe, said they were happy to pick crucial points and move some places up the table.

"We are so excited with the win. We are in the relegation zone but at least have created some gap between us and the bottom teams. We still have a lot of work to do.

"We always tell our central defenders at training to go into attacking areas because they have the height and today they did so and got a goal," said Bonyongwe.

The police side also introduced their new player, Evans Gwekwerere, in the second half but he did not make an immediate impression at a time when the visitors were doing most of the running and the pressing.

Bosso substitute, Beaven Chikaka, could have found the breakthrough in the last 20 minutes of the game as Highlanders camped in the Mambas area.

But twice, he watched in agony, as the Black Mambas goalkeeper saved his efforts while, with just minutes before full-time, he somehow directed his header off target when it looked easier to score.

The hosts' chances in the second half were few and far between and 'keeper Munyaradzi Diya did well to stop Tsepo Rantokoane's header.

Joseph Mutambiranwa found himself well placed in the box but failed to drill his effort home.

However, in the end, it was Warumwa Warumwa who had the last laugh and scrapped a huge victory to make up for the 1-2 loss to Highlanders at Barbourfields in the reverse tie.
