HIGHLANDERS chairman Peter Dube has been elected unopposed as the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) vice-chairman after a vetting exercise that took place on Wednesday.

Dube was in the same post in the last term and will now await Sunday's election which will pit Dynamos chairman Keni Mubaiwa against Caps United president Twine Phiri.

The PSL electoral committee meeting was initially scheduled to take place last week on Friday but it was postponed to Wednesday this week due to international games which were being played at the weekend.

However, the electoral committee met on Wednesday to vet the candidates and both Phiri and Mubaiwa were cleared - thus setting the stage for what is likely to be a bruising contest.

Tinofara Hove, a member of the electoral committee, confirmed the clearance of the two candidates.

Zifa has set March 9 as the date for the PSL elections after they had been deferred to allow the league to align its constitution with that of the national soccer controlling body. The PSL had put a request to Zifa to have their elections which had been scheduled for February 23 postponed to a later date to enable it to conclude its constitution amendment process.

After the PSL election, focus will now shift to the main Zifa board elections on March 29 where 64 councillors will choose their president.
