VETERAN football administrator Ndumiso Gumede is tipped to land the Highlanders FC chief executive officer job in the next two weeks.
Gumede is said to be heading an impressive list of administrators who have been head-hunted by the club. Bosso are said to be eager to fill the post as part of the club licensing and want someone who is familiar with the club and has an impressive resume in the game of football.
Highlanders chairman Peter Dube confirmed yesterday that Highlanders would soon engage a chief executive officer. He said the subject had come up for discussion at most club general meetings and the move was in line with the club's quest to get to the next level.
Gumede did not seek re-lection at the recent Zifa elections saying he did not want to obliterate the good he has previously done in the game by overstaying at Number 53 Livingstone Road - the seat of Zifa in Harare.
Dube said: "Obviously people are bound to talk conclusively about Gumede given his contribution to the club and Zimbabwean football. As Highlanders we indeed want to engage a chief executive officer and we will conclude the issue on Tuesday when we meet as a club. At the moment there is nothing that has been finalised and we are still to seal a deal with the man we are targeting.
"We have had a number of people in mind for the job. The man we want should be the face of Highlanders, knowledgeable of the game and the business of it as we want to get to a higher level as a club. That has been the tone from our meetings with members, they want progress and not stagnation."
Sources said the club had looked within its member base where Nhlanhla Dube, a former club secretary and committee member and Zifa education officer Brian Moyo were front runners.
Moyo is a former administrator at the club.
Dube said the issue of who would take over as Highlanders chief executive would be taken through the club's channels.
"The executive, board and human resources sub-committee will deliberate on the issue before a final decision is arrived at," said the Bosso chairman.
Gumede is touted as one of the finest administrators to run Highlanders. He is the most decorated chairman Amahlolanyama have ever had.
During his different spells from the late 1970s to the 1980s, Gumede had successful stints which were characterised by a vibrant junior policy, silverware for the first team and acquisition of property.
He had terms of mixed fortunes with Zifa and was Cuthbert Dube's deputy until March. Many view him as having been a football force within a board which was a mixed bag of business technocrats and technically sound personnel.
In house squabbles, Asiagate investigations and a lethargic secretariat put paid to hopes of a successful term under Dube.
Gumede's package and sponsorship of it, Dube said, was something that the club was looking at.
