NDUMISO Gumede is the new Highlanders chief executive officer and will start his duties on June 1.
Gumede, who was the Zifa vice-president between 2010 and early 2014 had announced his retirement last year, but the Bosso post seems to be appealing as the club moves to meet the Caf club licensing standards.
Sources at Highlanders said Gumede, who has been in football for four decades, penned a contract with Bosso this week.
"He signed a contract this week and is set to start work on June 1," said the source.
However, Highlanders chairman Peter Dube said they had not finalised with Gumede.
"We are putting everything together. We have had discussions with Gumede and he is making evaluations. We need a person who can fit in that capacity. We have identified what the job entails and what is left is for him to go through the job specifications considering that we caught him at a time when he is busy," said Dube.
He said they were expected to complete the process in the next couple of weeks and that they were targeting Gumede for the post.
"We feel he has the capacity. There won't be need to interview or interrogate anyone else because we are zeroing in on Gumede. We hope he won't let us down. The discussions are unlikely to fail," he said.
Gumede also confirmed that they were still in talks with Highlanders.
"I have not signed anything. We are in consultations with Highlanders. We last had that preliminary meeting which was reported on. We agreed that I will look into what we talked about and Highlanders would do the same. So at the moment no, I have not signed," he said.
Gumede is credited with acquiring assets for Highlanders in the 1970s to 1980s when he was the club chairman and placed a huge emphasis on the successful junior policy during his tenure. He won a number of accolades with the club.
Some of the assets that Highlanders have include the clubhouse which has football grounds, multi-purpose pitches, two sports bars, a club office in the city centre and a camping house in Luveve known as Hotel California.
