HIGHLANDERS Football Club chairman Peter Dube is confident new chief executive officer Ndumiso Gumede will deliver in his new post.
Dube said the former Highlanders chairman starts work this week.He said he believed Gumede was the right choice despite views by some who think otherwise.
"We believe he has the knowledge and experience to deliver on the objectives of the club. He is the right face of the club and I think in about two years' time he would have set up a system that does not need us to be always playing a hands-on role as the executive.
"It's unfortunate we can't please everyone, even the media but we had a choice to make and we believe Gumede has the right qualities. However, I think many agree he is one of the best, if not the best in football administration in the country," said Dube.
The scope of football has widened and while the need to hire a CEO was one of the requirements of the FIFA Club licensing, Highlanders had always advocated that one be appointed, he said.
Dube said the change in the way the game was now managed also required having a CEO to ensure the business aspect of running Highlanders got due attention.
"There are several entities that we have but have not paid enough attention to them and we believe having someone running the club fulltime will fulfill that obligation. He has accepted the burden we are putting on him and I believe he is equal to the task. Again, he is a man of integrity and has never been involved in personalised politics throughout his career in football," he said.
Efforts to get a comment from the former Zifa vice-president were fruitless as he was not answering his mobile phone.
Gumede was Highlanders chairman in the late 70's to 80's and during his tenure, his executive acquired assets for the club including the clubhouse which has football grounds, multi-purpose pitches, two sports bars, a club office in the city centre and a camping house in Luveve popularly known as Hotel California.
He has also taken up several roles at the national football governing, Zifa including being its secretary-general, chief executive officer and vice- president.
