Highlanders' juggernaut continued its revival under caretaker coach Mkhupali Masuku with a sterling performance that sank struggling Lengthens in an exciting Premiership match at Dzivaresekwa yesterday.

A solitary strike from the penalty spot by former Black Rhinos midfielder Mernard Mupera ensured the Bulawayo giants had a fourth fruitful outing on the trot.

Highlanders showed their intent to run away with the three points as early as the 15th minute when a flashing header from Mupera, brilliant all afternoon, hit the upright with Muzondiwa Gonese in goals for Lengthens a beaten man.

Highlanders midfield supremo Erick Mudzingwa failed to tuck in a sitter in a goalmouth melee after a fine delivery from the flank by impressive winger Abraham Mbaiwa and Joel Ngodzo also missed in the ensuing melee.

A swift counter-attack by the Happy People ended with Norest Mkwezaramba releasing Misheck Mburayi, who failed to beat Ariel Sibanda in goals for Highlanders in a one-on- one situation.

The killer punch was to come in the 61st minute when Lengthens skipper Stephen Matsangaise, resolute in defence for Lengthens, handled under pressure from Abraham Mbaiwa and the referee correctly pointed to the spot with Mupera capping a fine afternoon by sending Gonese the wrong way.

Josthein Mathuthu, the Lengthens gaffer, bemoaned the lack of a killer instinct in his strikeforce but lauded his boys for a commendable performance considering that they were facing a big team.

Mupera attributed the rich vein of form they have struck to the right combinations being implemented.
