Bosso goes 8 years without beating Dembare

DYNAMOS continued their dominance over Highlanders when they edged their bitter rivals in a dour Castle Lager Premiership match at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday, meaning Bosso have gone for EIGHT years without collecting maximum points against their traditional foes.
It is a result that ignited lots of emotions from Highlanders' fans who might have thought that Sunday was the day for their team to put an end to the Dynamos' jinx.
DeMbare's striker Washington Phakamisa waited for the big stage to inflict pain on Highlanders as he scored the solitary goal for the defending champions who moved two places up the ladder from position five to three.
Dynamos are now tied on 22 points with pacesetters Hwange who suffered their first home defeat to Chicken Inn and How Mine who were held to a goalless draw by FC Platinum.
Highlanders slipped and by yesterday, their coach Kelvin Kaindu was yet to recover from the weekend defeat to their old rivals.
According to sources, Kaindu was stung by the defeat and after the game, was quiet all the way from Harare to Bulawayo.
He spoke about his disappointment in having their 11-match unbeaten run brought to a halt by Dynamos.
"I am disappointed because we had prepared for the game with a view of winning but what hurts is that our first loss came at the hands of our old foes. This is not very good at all and I think this is a difficult wake up call for us. This defeat threatens our championship aspirations but we mustn't lose hope as we need to bounce back from this result and fight on," Kaindu said.
The Zambian expatriate, who is in his third season with Bosso, believes a lapse in concentration cost them a point at least and admitted that they failed to create scoring opportunities.
Dynamos had the upper hand in midfield with veteran Murape Murape being at the top of his game while Stephen Alimenda and Devon Chafa had firm control of DeMbare's engineroom.
"I think we gave away a soft goal after a lapse in concentration. We tried to come back but we lacked creativity especially in midfield. All hope is not lost though and we have to make it up by bouncing back in our next matches," he said.
Due to many changes to their squad, Highlanders were bound to struggle and reports say they did not even have a warm-up before the game allegedly because of certain beliefs. Only the goalkeepers took to the field before kickoff.
An interesting observation about Highlanders is that they are yet to have a consistent starting 11, with Kaindu making numerous changes week in and week out. The changes are done ostensibly as a "rotation system."
Erick Mudzingwa, who has been playing as an anchorman, was surprisingly switched to right back, swapping places with Simon Munawa with Njabulo Nyoni, who is yet to start a league match this season, surprisingly given the nod ahead of Ariel Sibanda in Bosso's biggest game of the season.
Nyoni looked uncomfortable and had trouble dealing with crosses, something which he has been failing to improve on since his days at Chicken Inn.
Also thrown into the fray was Joel Ngodzo, who is said to have been on fire during last week's training sessions but failed to make any meaningful contribution to the team.
Gabriel Nyoni who is coming from injury also started ahead of Ozias Zibande.
Mamelodi Sundowns-bound Kudakwashe Mahachi was marked out and maybe it's time Highlanders came up with other options of unlocking their opponents instead of persisting with their wing-play that most teams have read.
Kaindu will definitely beef up his squad during the transfer window that opens next Tuesday and is in the hunt for a striker and will need to find a right back as well as a creative midfielder.
There are reports that he wants to reunite with striker Njabulo Ncube and is also interested in Hardlife Zvirekwi of Caps United and it remains to be seen whether Bosso will be able to get their targets.
Highlanders were not the only top-of-the table team that bit the dust as Chicken Inn handed Hwange their first home defeat at the Colliery Stadium on Sunday with Thomas Chimenya getting the only goal for the Gamecocks.
After the Colliery trip, Chicken Inn coach Joey Antipas was a relieved man.
"We are slowly getting there and we need to continue working hard. Hwange are a good side but we prepared well for the encounter. We just have to guard against complacency in our coming games," said Antipas.
Second placed How Mine, who were held to a goalless draw by FC Platinum, are cooling off championship talk by saying they are just "fighting for survival."
"We are not thinking about the title because right now no one is safe. We just want to survive the chop and that is what we are doing. Every point is vital and should we be there on top around Week 25, then we can start talking about the title but now everything is about survival," said Philani Ncube, the How Mine coach.
