Revised PSL fixtures raise a stink

The revision of the 2014 Premier Soccer League (PSL) fixtures has raised questions, with supporters arguing that the new schedule gives some teams unfair advantage over others.

In what is likely to emerge as a bone of contention for some clubs, the revised 2014 PSL fixtures running till the weekend of September 21 reflects that one of the leading top four teams, Caps United is likely to enjoy advantage over the likes of Dynamos and Highlanders in terms of revenue collection and competition.

Highlanders and Dynamos will now play 75 percent of their home matches mid-week while all of Caps United's home matches will be played during weekends.

Dynamos has four straight home matches being played mid-week while Highlanders has three home matches also being played midweek, raising genuine possibilities that the teams might get into financial difficulties.

On the contrary, the Green Machine will be enjoying maximum revenue at home during this period as they play during weekends.

The team that plays at home collects 100 percent revenue in gate takings.

With the league race now in its penultimate stage, conspiracy theorists have questioned whether Caps United owner, Twine Phiri, who happens to be the PSL chairman, might not have influenced such decisions.
