Vincent Kandiero was on Saturday crowned Mr Iron Man Zimbabwe 2011. Kandiero came first outwitting defending champion Isaac "Sugar" Chimuchenga to walk away with a grand prize of a vehicle in the Mr and Ms Iron Man contest held at Ochi City in Harare.
Kandiero said determination and hard work had finally paid dividends for him.
"I have waited patiently for quite some time now to be crowned the overall winner in any competition," Kandiero said. "Playing second fiddle in most competitions really inspired me to work extra hard and am really honoured to be the winner tonight."
Chimuchenga scooped the second position and got a double- door refrigerator for his efforts while Champion Mbewe from Botswana came on third place and was given a plasma screen.
Six-time Mr Zimbabwe Innocent Choga said he was very pleased with the exploits shown by all contestants but was particularly happy to note that all the first prize winners were in a class of their own thereby making the process judging easy.
"This was a fearless contested event but what struck the judges' eye was the fact that in all categories first-placed contestants were all outstanding and this really made life easier to pronounce the winners," he said.
For the first time in his career, six-time Mr Iron Man Zumailer- Eusen Manner walked away with a number as he failed to make it into the top six.
Fellow bodybuilding favourite Spencer Bhauti from Borrowdale gym also failed to make an impression by not getting any position.
Veteran bodybuilder Elvis Chibhamu failed to get a ticket into the finals as he was eliminated in the pre-judge tournament joining his son Ritchie who had also failed to make the cut in the junior category.
Meanwhile, Choga has condemned some barbaric acts by some hired bouncers who were terrorising journalists and guests during the contest.
Two bouncers identified as Joseph Nguruve and Abraham from Mufakose manhandled journalists who were covering the contest.
Despite numerous presentations of the press cards, scribes from this paper and other photographers and video men were continuously chased away from covering the proceedings.
"Those are not qualities of bodybuilders I would say there from the streets," Choga said.
"I have never been a bouncer before but my understanding is that they should be the peace keepers and not trouble makers."
