TRADITIONAL giants Highlanders and Dynamos are set to have an early season showdown when they meet in the inaugural Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Charity Cup at Barbourfields Stadium.
The match was initially set for March 1 but was put on hold to pave way for the Bob91 elimination match pitting Bosso and Caps United. Makepekepe booted Bosso 2-1 but went on to lose the final 0-1 to DeMbare at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday.
Jabulani Hadebe, chief executive officer of the Joshua Nkomo Foundation Trust confirmed the imminent staging of the match but said new dates have not been finalised yet.
While the organisers initially wanted a once off match in Bulawayo, Zifa advocated for a two-legged final.
"The match is definitely on the cards, we're waiting for the PSL and Zifa to give us dates since the Premiership season is starting soon. We had initially set March 1 but we had to pave way for the Bob Super Cup," said Hadebe.
As part of its contribution, the Bulawayo City Council has already given the organisers use of Barbourfields at a nominal fee.
Hadebe said proceeds from the challenge match will be channeled towards the building of the Joshua Nkomo Museum in Matsheumhlophe.
If the match eventually takes place, it will be the third time this year for the Harare giants to be involved in an invitational tournament after the Sino-Zimbabwe and the Bob91 matches.
