HIGHLANDERS' ace and the Premiership's leading goal scorer Knox Mutizwa has been named player of the month for June and July while FC Platinum gaffer Norman Mapeza scooped the coaches' gong for the same period.

Mutizwa and Mapeza's selection maintained the Southern Region's continued dominance in the topflight league this season as no player or coach from outside the region has taken the honours this term.

Triangle coach Kelvin Kaindu and his Chicken Inn counterpart Joey Antipas are previous coaches of the month for April and May respectively, whilst Chicken Inn's fiery forward Edmore Chirambadare has claimed the player of the month accolade twice.

Four Southern Region teams are in the top five on the league table, with third placed Dynamos providing the only Northern region side.

Chicken Inn top the table followed by Triangle, while FC Platinum and How Mine complete the top five.

Mutizwa played a major role in his team's 5-1 demolition of How Mine on Sunday with a second half hat-trick that shot him to the top of the league's goal scoring charts with nine goals despite playing only 11 of the current 18 games.

Mutizwa started the season as a winger before coach Bongani Mafu switched him upfront to partner chief striker Obidiah Tarumbwa after the departure of Thomas Chideu for South African Premiership outfit Ajax Cape Town.

The Young Warriors' forward has been consistent in his goal scoring and notched his first in Week 11 of the season when Chirambadare had already banged in six.

Mutizwa credited Mafu and Tarumbwa for his goal scoring form.

"I would like to thank those who voted me player of the month and also thank Mafu for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to shine upfront with Tarumbwa who has also played a big role in helping me to be top goal scorer," said Mutizwa.

"I have since set myself a target of scoring 18 goals and see myself playing for Fenerbahçe (in the Turkish league) in the near future."

Mapeza attributed his success to his team's hard work. "I feel honoured but I can't take all the glory because the club also played a major role. The boys played so well and it is their hard work that made me get here," he said.

FC Platinum lie fourth on the league table and have gone nine games undefeated.
