Located in Zimbabwe, and opened in December 1969, the Falls Road Circuit in Bulawayo was 4.054 km (2.525 miles) long. It was extended to 2.535 miles in 1972, and this version was used until 1974. The Falls Road Circuit was the first purpose-built facility in what was then Rhodesia. Set in a natural bowl on the outskirts of Bulawayo, the track is located among sandy hills and scrubland.
A relatively fast circuit, racers enjoyed wide run-off area and the circuit soon flourished as one of the best in Africa, hosting a round of the Springbok Series.
Perhaps inevitably, when the country underwent political upheaval and became Zimbabwe, interest in motor racing vanished almost overnight and Bulawayo faded quietly away.
