HIGHLANDERS will dock winning bonuses for defender Honest Moyo and midfielder Douglas Sibanda after the two players behaved in an unsportsmanlike behaviour during the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match against Dongo Sawmill at Barbourfields Stadium which they won 2-0.
Sibanda was sent off for a second bookable offence by referee Philani Ncube while Moyo earned himself a yellow card during the same match for rough play. Highlanders' head of technical Cosmas Zulu recommended that the club should take action against the two players. Highlanders' chief executive officer Ndumiso Gumede confirmed that the club will withhold the winning bonuses for the duo believed to be $140.
"We have taken disciplinary action against the two players, in this case it is the docking of allowances,'' said Gumede.
The dismissal of Sibanda saw Highlanders change their game plan in the second half, substituting an otherwise impressive Ralph Matema, who was given a standing ovation by the Highlanders faithful when coming out. On the other hand the technical bench feel Moyo's booking was unnecessary as the tackle that got him the yellow card happened on the half-way line.
Sibanda's has already missed a match due to suspension after accumulating three yellow cards. Most of the bookings are for questioning the referee's decision. Zulu vowed that after the latest punishment, he hoped that Sibanda would mend his ways.
Meanwhile, Highlanders have not paid out any winning allowance for the victory over Dongo Sawmill. The club only received $1 789-55 for the match which grossed $9 233. The bulk of the money raised went to Bulawayo City Council the owners of Barbourfields who pocketed $1 846, the Zimbabwe Republic Police with a share of $1 330 for providing security and the match officials who were paid $840.
