CHAPUNGU have vowed to continue with their top eight march when they take on Bulawayo giants Highlanders in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League encounter at Ascot Stadium today. The hosts are on course to end the season in the top eight as they presently lie eighth on the league table with 35 points.
The airmen's coach John Nyikadzino expressed confidence in his team completing a double over Bosso after winning the reverse fixture 1-0 in Week 4 in Bulawayo.
"We're looking forward to a tough match because Highlanders have a new technical department and if you look at the position they're on the log, they'll want to fight to the end to avoid relegation," said Nyikadzino.
"However, we're prepared for them and I've no doubt that we can complete a double over them so that we can cement our place in the top eight."
A victory over Bosso will see Chapungu climbing to sixth on the standings and also extend their unbeaten run to four games.
However, Waru Waru will be missing the services of the club's joint leading scorer Tinei Chitora through suspension. Chitora has formed a formidable strike-force with Allan Tavarwisa and the pair has seven goals apiece.
Former Dynamos forward Patrick Khumbula and Maxwell Mavuto are also expected to add impetus to the attack.
However, Bosso, who are 11th on the table with 31 points, are still not safe from the dreaded chop, and will be pressed to collect maximum points to avoid the dogfight for survival.
Highlanders' technical adviser Cosmos "Tsano" Zulu said he did not have the best of preparations as he was missing three key players all week, but was confident of turning the tables on the hosts.
Knox Mutizwa, Teenage Hadebe and Bruce Kangwa, who joined their teammates yesterday, were away with the victorious Warriors in the second leg of the African Nations Championships final qualifier against Lesotho.
"We haven't had the best of preparations since we were missing the services of some of our key players, who only joined camp today (yesterday) as they were with the national team. However, it's not an excuse on our part as we believe in the other players we have at our disposal and believe they can do the job," said Zulu.
"As a technical team, we were mandated to ensure that the team isn't relegated and we've to win the game tomorrow (today) at all costs so we move to safety," he said.
He refused to divulge Bosso's injury casualties saying this would help arm Chapungu.
With Mutizwa likely to be rested due to fatigue, the responsibility of chief striker will fall on veteran Obadiah Tarumbwa and the speedy Gabriel Nyoni.
