2015 Soccer Star selection date set
18 Nov 2015 at 16:14hrs | Views
With just three matches left before the curtain comes down on the Castle Lager Premier League — sports writers, coaches and captains will converge in Harare on November 30, to select the 11 outstanding players.
In a press statement released by the league sponsors yesterday, just like in the previous year, the voting process will move along with technology by using a secret computerised electronic ballot.
The electronic voting system will be supervised by a panel of experts that will include media house editors, football stakeholders as well as Delta Beverages internal and external audit firms.
Although the Soccer Star of the Year and his two runners-up will be selected on the same day, their names will be kept a secret until a special banquet to be hosted by the sponsors Delta Beverages on December 5.
The Castle Lager Soccer Star of the Year Award is restricted only to performances in league matches while those performances in knockout tournaments including the Chibuku Super Cup which has the same sponsor as the league do not count.
Besides the best 11 players, the Coach of the Year and Referee of the Year will also be selected on the same day.
There are also prizes for Rookie Player of the Year and Best Under-20, Goalkeeper of the Year, the Most Disciplined Team of the Year and the Golden Boot among others.
According to the rules and regulations guiding the selection of the outstanding players of the season, any player, according to the PSL, who accumulated six yellow cards or more during the course of the season up to selection time, will not be eligible for the awards.
The same will apply to a player who accumulated two or more red cards during the course of the season up to selection time.
However, merely being dragged before a disciplinary committee does not exclude a player from the selection process if the guilty verdict has not been passed.
Chicken Inn captain Danny Phiri, who has been an influential figure in the Gamecocks' charge towards their first league title this season and was a sure bet to be among the 11 best players this season will not be considered after picking up four yellow cards and a red card.
Last year, ZPC Kariba defender Dennis Dauda was crowned the Soccer Star of the Year after an alluring debut season in the top flight.
