Zimbabwe in Champions League dilemma

ZIMBABWE is unlikely to have a representative in the 2016 Confederation of African Football Champions League competition whose registration deadline is December 30.

Castle Lager Premier Soccer League kings Chicken Inn have already indicated that they might not register for the competition.  The two possible replacements FC Platinum and Dynamos, who are fighting for second spot heading into the last matches tomorrow, have said they can only go to Africa on merit.

Chicken Inn chairman Lifa Ncube told Chronicle Sport yesterday that indications were that they might not take part, citing astronomical participation figures.

He said they did not want to derail their plans of retaining the league title next season.

Dynamos chairman Kenny Mubaiwa also told the media that his club will certainly not be going back into the African jungles, leaving FC Platinum, said to be financially sound, the likely candidates.

However, FC Platinum spokesperson Chido Chizondo yesterday said that they will not be registering for the Caf Champions League.

"We will not be participating in the Champions League, the only way we can take part in the competition is by merit, not through invitation or by default," said Chizondo.

Unless Chicken Inn make a dramatic turn, only Chibuku Cup winners Harare City will be  carrying the national flag during their Caf Confederations Cup.
