NEWLY promoted Zifa Southern Region Division One side Highlanders Academy will headline the inaugural Godlwayo Football League tournament in Filabusi on February 6.
Highlanders' chief executive officer Ndumiso Gumede said their development side will use the tournament to scout for new talent to beef up their squad ahead of the gruelling journey in Division One football.
"We received a letter of invitation from the Godlwayo League asking us to grace their event and we kindly obliged because we wanted to give the young boys an opportunity to have game time before the start of the season," said Gumede.
"We will also use the tournament to gauge if there are other players in the academy team that deserve a senior team call up into the PSL. Our plan as a club is to nurture players from this team and this therefore means it must never be promoted to the PSL," he said.
Gumede said they wanted the team to remain in Division One as they intend using it as a feeder side for the senior team in the topflight league.
Highlanders Academy was promoted to Division One at the end of the 2015 season after finishing as runners-up to Talen Vision in the Bulawayo Division Two League.
