NEWLY promoted Premier Soccer League outfit Bulawayo City has embarked on an intensive physical training programme as part of preparations for the start of their debut season in the top flight league scheduled for early April.
City won promotion into the PSL last season and has been holding two sessions a week at a local gym under a professional trainer and join a handful of local teams that take the importance of fitness training seriously.
Coach Philani Ncube said in addition to fitness training, they were also gearing up for real match time and would have their first pre-season friendly against an unnamed side this weekend.
"We have been hitting the gym for some time now because we know that physical fitness is also as vital as technical ability in a match setup.
"The boys are really sweating it out and I cannot complain," said Ncube.
"We are not only working on fitness levels but also preparing for real game time. We are having a match over the weekend but we have not yet confirmed our opponents."
City has been busy in the transfer market beefing up its squad and continues to be linked to big name signings.
However, Ncube said the talk of big name signings is mere speculation and they were focused on preparing for the new season.
"We are coming into the Premier League to compete and this issue of us getting big names will not get into our heads.
"What I can only promise you is that we will be ready for competition in the top flight league.
