Highlanders' gamble to field third choice goalkeeper Prosper Matutu in a cup final paid off on Sunday.
Matutu said he was "shocked" when his name was read out as being the 'first choice' keeper for the day.
That was to be his first competitive game for Highlanders.
"I was shocked at first when I was told that I was going to be the first choice for the match.
"But I did not let it go into my head. I played according to instructions. It is a big day for me," he told reporters after the game.
Highlanders' Dutch coach Erol Akbay said Matutu always impressed him at training.
"I am very happy with his performance. I have always trusted him," Akbay said.
