New junior African record holder in triple jump, Chengetai Mapaya has earned himself a scholarship to study in the United States of America (USA) following his record-breaking performance at the just-ended 2017 African Junior Athletics Championships held in Algeria.
Mapaya, who broke the 15.26 metres African record to set a new African record of 16.84 metres, told reportes that the biannual continental showpiece opened up a lifetime opportunity as he will now be going for a sports education scholarship in the USA.
Mapaya's trainer, Brenda Lippe said it has been long for them working on Mapaya's fitness levels.
The triple jumper said he is now aiming for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in Japan.
