Zimbabwe Davis Cup team beats Ghana, hopes back on track

Zimbabwe's Davis Cup hopes are back on track after the southern Africa nation overcame Ghana 2-1 on Tuesday and now need a win against Namibia to seal a place in the play offs.
Against Ghana, Benjamin Lock who has now assumed the role of Zimbabwe's number one seed in the absence of Takanyi Garanganga was more fluid and systematically cut down Ghana's Raymond Harford to size in straight sets 6-1, 6-1.
Although Ghana's Henry Adjei-Darko derailed the Zimbabwean train with 6-2, 6-3 win over Mark Flyn, the combination of Lock and Tendai Tapfuma sealed victory for Zimbabwe with another straight set win 6-3, 6-3 in the doubles.
The win comes after Zimbabwe were rocked back on their heels following a 3-0 thumping at the hands of hosts Tunisia on the opening day of the eight team competition.
A win for Zimbabwe over Namibia will give them second placing in Pool A behind Tunisia and a place in the play offs.
Tunisia put themselves firmly at the top of the table of Pool A after another 3-0 win, this time over Zimbabwe's neighbours Namibia.
Ghana are without a win in the group having lost also lost 2-1 to Namibia and are out of the competition. They will face Tunisia in their last game.
The qualifying teams will be determined on the last day of play on Saturday. Two teams will be promoted to the higher Africa Zone Group Two next year.
