Zim Formula 2 racer becomes centre of attraction

Zimbabwe's top motorsport racer, Axcil Jefferies, is becoming the centre of attraction in Formula 2 racing with fans gathering around his pits for pictures wondering how a Zimbabwean made it this far in the sport.
Jefferies was in his fourth race in France on Sunday where he claimed a tenth position finish grabbing attention in his Zimbabwean flag. He has continued to impress as a Zimbabwean sporting and tourism ambassador with his professional approach to his work.
His slogan "Visit Zimbabwe" printed on his race car, has caught the eye of many followers and fans of motorsport with F2 being covered globally in over 170 countries. F2 is only a rung behind the most popular Formula One.
Jefferies impressed with his race craft for the 45 minute race, which saw some of the best overtaking manoeuvres and racing seen in F2 this year. His tenth finish earned him points in his fifth successive race.
"I learnt a lot in that race, with all the passes and dicing we had. It was good fun and we are progressing well. I have a bit of a break for the next six weeks and hope to travel home for a rest, before the next event in Hungary. Once again a big thank you to all Zimbabweans and my sponsor Afri-Hype," said Jefferies.
On his Facebook profile the young Zimbabwean has posted a picture of himself in his new race suit in the national colours and sending a toast to his fans saying "for the love of Zimbabwe."
After having difficulties with finding a good set up on his F2 race car, for the temperatures which were 38 degree Celcius and track temperatures of over 50 degrees; Axcil could only manage to Qualify 11th on Sunday Morning.
But that did not get the determined youngster down when the lights went off for the start of the race. The 18-year-old got a great start and just as he has done in the last two races, made a brave dive into the first corner to pass British driver Daniel McKenzie.
He then set off after the other British driver Hector Hurst, and within two laps caught and passed him with a clean and mature move into the chichane.
At the front, German pole man Markus Pommer was maintaining a 0.7s lead over Tuscher while in the midfield Jefferies was leading a three-car battle for the final points spot.
Axcil is certainly a Zimbabwean pride and a sure unapologetic patriot of his country, his facebook page gateway is profiled with him in his new Zimbabwe colours racing kit stating "For the love of Zimbabwe."
