The victorious Zimbabwe darts team is back in the country from South Africa, where they were crowned Zone 6 champions after amassing 7 gold, 5 silver and 3 bronze medals.
They went, they played and they conquered. This is the story of the Zimbabwe darts team's campaign on the regional arena.
Consequently, the triumphant 20-member team was in jubilant mood upon arrival after conquering all and sundry at the Zone 6 Championship in South Africa, where they deposed the hosts as regional champions.
Three members of the team: Florence Ncube, Melody Gezana and Peter Mukukula said although the tournament was tough, their resilience and strong will to win gave them the edge over their rivals.
Ncube said: "I won 3 gold medals and I'm so excited. We were strong mentally that's why we won."
"The tournament was tough but Zimbabweans are known for being fighters and that saw us through," said Gezana.
Mukukula said: "We were at the top of our game. Our opponents, especially the South Africans had no answer to our fighting spirit."
National Darts Association of Zimbabwe President, Meynard Moyo says the success of the Zimbabwe team down south is a manifestation that the sport is making great strides from a development perspective.
He said: "Hopefully the success will attract more people to join the sport and we hope parents will encourage their children to take up the sport so that we can commence a development programme from grassroots."
The Zimbabwe darts team was crowned overall winners of the Zone 6 championship after accumulating 190 points.
The team amassed 15 medals comprising 7 gold, 5 silver and 3 bronze medals, while defending champions South Africa finished second after amassing 156 points.
