ZIMBABWE'S dream of promotion to the Davis Cup Euro/Africa Zone went up in smoke after falling 2-1 to Egypt at Cairo's Smash Tennis Academy yesterday.
Zimbabwe, who were being represented by the gallant quartet of Mark Fynn, Takanyi Garanganga, playing captain Martin Dzuwa and Tino Chanakira had topped their pool B, after seeing off the challenges of Ghana (3-0) and Kenya (3-0).
However, yesterday they found the going tough against the hosts in the qualification play-off, with only Garanganga winning his singles game.
Garanganga then teamed up with Fynn who had lost his singles game in a losing cause in the doubles match.
