Tsholotsho karateka dies during training

IN an incident that has left the Tsholotsho community shell-shocked, a 30-year-old karateka died yesterday morning after his liver and intestines were ruptured during a practice session at Tsholotsho Business Centre on Wednesday evening.
Trevor Moyo, an intern at Tsholotsho Rural District Council, died yesterday morning after succumbing to internal injuries sustained during his club, Dragons Karate Club's training session although there were allegations of trying to conceal the real cause of his death by officials at the hospital and club.
"My son received a kick on the navel and he fell down before being rushed to Tsholotsho District Hospital on that same evening. We visited him in hospital where he confirmed being kicked on the navel," said a distraught Brown Moyo, uncle to the now deceased.
Moyo said on Thursday afternoon, Trevor was taken to Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo for a scan where it was revealed that his liver and intestines were damaged.
"We were told to buy some medication which he was to take while here at Tsholotsho Hospital. He arrived here at night and yesterday morning I went to the hospital with his medicine only to be told that he had passed on," said Moyo.
Dragons Karate Club's Sensei Agrippa Sibanda declined to shed any light regarding the incident, saying they will only do so sometime next week.
"The problem is that people are coming up with all sorts of reasons which are disturbing and might not be true. We are still consulting with the family," said Sibanda.
Sources close to the incident said one of the karate club's officials had a relative at the hospital who holds a senior post while there are also allegations that Trevor met his fate at the hands of a fellow karateka who is an employee at the hospital.
Meanwhile, Trevor's family yesterday visited the police to get advice on how to deal with the issue.
