Zimbabwe's Davis Cup team ensured their place in the Euro-Africa Zone Group 2 after Courtney Lock and Mark Fynn overcame Dmitrii Baskov and Andrei Soltoianu in a Davis Cup doubles encounter at Harare Sports Club.

Lock and Fynn got off to bright start with an early break but the Zimbabwean duo allowed their Moldovan opponents to claw their way back by also breaking their Zimbabwean opponents.

Both sides would hold serve until the eleventh game when Lock and Fynn broke Baskov and Soltoianu before serving out the set and registering a 7-5 first set win.

Moldova levelled the encounter at 1 set all after winning the second set 7-5.

The third set was again closely contested and had to be decided in a tie break.

The hosts showed composure taking the second set and moving into a 2-1 lead.

On the brink of victory, Lock and Fynn held their nerve in the third set registering a 6-3 win to claim a 7-5, 5-7, 7-6, 6-3 victory which handed the hosts an unassailable 3-nil lead.

Victory ensures Zimbabwe will remain in The Euro-Africa Zone Group 2 with Moldova relegated.

Play resumes on Sunday with two reverse singles encounters.
