It is in very rare instances where sports codes venture into supporting other non-profitable organisations. In instances where such sporting codes have been involved it is because there is involvement of high profile figures for their gain ofcourse. It is also worth noting that in our scenario here in Zimbabwe where sponsorship of sporting codes is non -existent, it will take a great effort to have members fundraise for a worthy cause. The darts fraternity defied odds to support the less privileged and disadvantaged children in Arcadia community in Harare through an open darts event.

The MOTH Sports Club was the place to be on Saturday as the Arcadia Community celebrated the life of Robin Spann and his good work of looking after the less privileged among the Arcadia community in various parts of Harare such as Sunningdale, St Martins and Braeside. The event was organized by Moth darts club who play darts in social league in the suburb of Braeside through their Chairperson Vince Naidoo. The event not a spectacular one but the gentleman's game of darts! Representatives from Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland West, Harare came to support a worthy cause, to help fundraise for 'Because we Care' trust of Harare.

The non-profitable organisation was founded by Robin Spann in the early 2000 and carried on by Jock Moore a local businessman who bankrolls most of the organisation activities. Taryon Weier spoke on behalf of the family and had this to say "We will continue to carry on the works left by our late brother, even though the situation on the ground is difficult. Through the game of darts we will continue to remember him always as well as his good heartedness".

Because we care- is a local charitable organisation that looks after the elderly, disadvantaged children, homeless and less privileged in the Arcadia society in greater Harare. Besides paying school fees for 30 plus children, medication, providing shelter it also provides food for the less privileged. It is also looking after a paraplegic child left by its parents who are both late. There is also the issue of always increasing number of elderly people due to the economic situation.

Various activities were lined up to raise funds including payment to register to play in the mixed doubles and singles events, buying raffle tickets  and an assortment of food dishes. What a best way to spend a sunny weekend in the quite suburb of Braeside among the darts family for a worthy cause. Darts players battled it out in mixed doubles and singles for various prizes donated by well-wishers in Harare. The double of Kudzanayi Nyemba of Mashonaland west and Brenda Mandizha of Harare emerged victorious against the double of Ivor and Charltone Chikwekwe in the mixed doubles final. Yesteryear greats Buegnoit and Hazel Meares showed the youth how it is done on the oche.

In the singles ladies it was an all Moth ladies battle between Bridget Dhana and Hazel Meares went toe for toe and Hazel prevailed. The men singles was snatched by Kudzanayi Nyemba defeating Sibanda of Harare. The event organizers Estelle Alwanger and Jaunice Jonny promised to involve all the darts teams in all provinces of Zimbabwe to include team games as well.
