Matabeleland South readies itself for youth games

Matabeleland South have stepped up their preparations for the National Youth Games scheduled for Gwanda next month with renovations of facilities currently underway.
The games will run from August 14 to 20 with all provinces expected to take part.
Sports Commission Youth Education through Sport national programme officer, Tirivashe Nheweyembwa, said preparations were at an advanced stage with the renovations and construction of sport facilities set to be completed early next month.
Construction work is underway at Gwanda High School where bathing facilities are being constructed, two volleyball courts are being renovated and more being constructed at Mzingwane High two volleyball courts and will be ready by early August.
Multipurpose courts are being constructed outside the Pelandaba stadium.
Nheweyembwa said that Pretoria Portland Cement has committed themselves to assist with the construction work and will be working together with the local organisers.
All provinces are expected to register their athletes by end of this month and pay up their affiliation fees US$45 per head.
Nheweyembwa said they were going to have a youth conference during the games and this year's theme is 'The role of sport in nation building'.
Participants will make their presentations on the theme.
