Torres just wants to win trophies
LUIS GARCIA believes Liverpool's lack of silverware is to blame for Fernando Torres slapping in a transfer request.
Torres, 26, is expected to join Premier League champions Chelsea for £50million before the transfer window slams shut.
And former Reds midfielder Garcia, who played for the club from 2004 to 2007, feels Torres no longer believes he can enjoy success at Anfield.
The Spaniard said: "Torres left Atletico Madrid looking for trophies and titles. He has not achieved any of them and maybe it is time to think about a move.
"Liverpool are in a position where they are struggling in the league and maybe with all the changes they have done it is a good moment to leave.
"I think Torres is a fantastic player and Chelsea are struggling a bit in the league, so maybe that's what they need now. Someone different, someone who can give them more impetus.
"One player cannot change a team but it will help a lot."
Despite Torres' desire to secure a move away from Merseyside, Garcia reckons the forward will find it tough to leave Liverpool.
He added: "It's always a difficult move. I know he loved his move to Liverpool and I am a bit surprised that he wants to move to Chelsea.
"I think it would be very hard for him. He loved Atletico but left to join Liverpool and that was difficult.
"But he did it because he was convinced he would achieve everything he wanted. I think it will be difficult for him and the Liverpool fans."
