Bosso pays coaches

HIGHLANDERS have paid part of outstanding salaries owed to its coaches with the club pledging to settle the difference by the end of June, B-Metro Sport reported.

Bosso coaches endured three months - January to March - without pay during the off-season and the club blamed the situation on financial constraints in the absence of revenue from gate takings.

Head coach Erol Akbay was then paid part of his dues but assistants Amini Soma Phiri and Cosmas Zulu together with development coaches Melusi Sibanda and Gift Lunga did not receive salaries.

Even the office staff was not spared the salary drought.

Now with steady revenue flowing into the club coffers in gate takings, the club has begun paying coaches and other members of the various technical benches.

Highlanders has the senior team, developmental and junior team coaches on its pay roll.

The Bulawayo giants have played host to Bulawayo City FC, Shabanie Mine FC and Kariba FC at Barbourfields, three games that attracted sizeable crowds.

"We have started paying the coaches their outstanding salaries and have also come up with a payment plan to make sure that they are fully paid by end of June.

"Highlanders is a community owned team and gets much of its revenue from gate takings meaning that it's hard for money to come in during the off season," said acting chairman Modern Ngwenya.

Ngwenya then referred B-Metro Sport to club treasurer Donald Ndebele for finer details on when exactly the coaches were paid.

Ndebele, however, declined to disclose the information citing confidentially clauses between the club and its employees when it comes to remuneration issues.
