ZIFA has commended efforts by Highlanders Football Club leadership to curb violent disruptions at their league matches.
In a statement posted on Zifa's website, the football body's president, Philip Chiyangwa said Highlanders have done the best they can to minimise hooliganism, violence and pitch invasion in the short term; and completely eradicate it in the long-term.
"Violence and its frequency at Highlanders matches is not unique to this period. The occurrence of hooliganism and violence at matches involving Highlanders is now lesser compared to past years.
"However, we are now advocating for zero hooliganism tolerance, hence the stakeholders meeting we had with (Sports) Minister Makhosini Hlongwane, to try and curb acts of violence, bearing in mind the limitations that Highlanders face.
"We have been made aware that Highlanders use the following channels to condemn and discourage violence, weekly Press conferences, road shows, social media campaigns, pamphlets and direct engagement with their fans," read the statement.
Chiyangwa added that Bosso acting chairman, Modern Ngwenya and chief executive officer Nhlanhla Dube, articulated issues of concern that are causing violence at Barbourfields during their engagement with Hlongwane and other stakeholders during a midweek meeting.
He said Zifa took the concerns into account and resolved to assist through reducing security costs, full stadium hire, being strict with referees, dealing with political malcontents, ensuring the arrest of all perpetrators of violence at stadiums and requiring football fans entering venues to be in possession of acceptable forms of identification.
