WHAT was supposed to be the Warriors COSAFA squad's first day in training was cancelled yesterday following a poor turnout for camp by players.

Only seven players where in camp yesterday when H-Metro contacted Sunday Chidzambwa at around 4pm.

Chidzambwa, who made his return into the Warriors dressing room eight years after leading the national team to their last COSAFA Cup victory in 2009, was an unhappy man and could not hide his disappointment.

"It's sad to announce that we are no longer going to train today because only seven or eight players have reported for duty so far. It is a disappointment to learn that even players from Harare are not here yet. So far Ovidy Karuru, Michelle Katsvairo, Nyasha Mpofu, Liberty Chakoroma and Blessing Majarira have arrived.

"I don't know why even the players from Harare are not here yet, they haven't communicated with me to update me on why they are not here by now. I was expecting to have almost everyone in camp by now and our training was scheduled to kick off this (yesterday) afternoon at 3pm." he said.

Chidzambwa added that the cancellation of yesterday's training is a disadvantage to the team since they have a limited period of training and preparing for the match ahead.

The national team is set to participate in the COSAFA Castle Cup scheduled for South Africa this Sunday.

The Warriors are in Group B together with Mozambique, Madagascar and Seychelles. They were supposed to start training Tuesday afternoon and leave for South Africa on Friday.

Players from Harare teams such as Ocean Mushure, Leeroy Mavhunga and Jimmy Tigere were not available for a comment as to why they failed to report for duty in time.
