JOHANNESBURG (AP) - The South African Football Association says former World Cup boss Danny Jordaan will lead an investigation into the possible changing of the national team's Bafana Bafana nickname.
SAFA says Jordaan, one of its vice presidents, will head a three-man team that also includes the body's president, Kirsten Nematandani, and the chairman of the referees' committee.
SAFA acknowledged concerns over the future of the name soon after last year's World Cup because the term Bafana Bafana was patented by a local businessman in 1994 and the football association cannot copyright it.
In 2002, South Africa's Supreme Court of Appeal dismissed a SAFA motion that it had any rights over Bafana Bafana and the name, made famous at the World Cup, could now be dropped.
