FC Platinum completes their rout of Swazi opponents

FC Platinum put up a scintillating first-half performance that produced another four-goal salvo to complete their rout of Swazi opponents Green Mamba and advance in style to the next round of the African Champions League after yesterday's preliminary round, second leg clash here at Mandava Stadium.
Rahman Gumbo's charges matched their goal harvest of the first leg through a brace by man of the match and Zimbabwe international forward Charles Sibanda plus one each from midfielders Joel Ngodzo and Allan Gahadzikwa.
The Swaziland correctional services outfit found no reply this time although they raised a shout in the dying embers of the one-sided duel, blowing two clearcut chances that could have forced a repeat of the scoreline at Somhlolo Stadium a fortnight ago.
Gumbo revealed in a post-match interview that it had been his strategy to kill off the Swazis with a quick goal.
"Well, I just told the boys to go searching for an early goal because I knew Green Mamba would also be in attacking mode. I think it worked because it was that first goal that set the tone for the entire game," said a beaming Gumbo, who only rejoined his lads on Friday after flying in from Burundi with the senior national team where he is doubling up as head coach.
Green Mamba's Zimbabwean coach Lloyd Mutasa acknowledged they had lost to a better team and blamed the heavy loss on the early goal conceded by his boys whose mission was to overturn the two-goal deficit incurred from their first meeting.
"My boys were unsettled by Platinum's early goal. I think they virtually surrendered after that first goal until they recovered in the second half after our half-time pep talk. That is why we came back stronger after the restart. But generally I am happy we had our chances and with more accuracy we could have narrowed the scoreline."
Overall, the Swazis were no match for a star-studded and ruthlessly efficient Platinum machine that now awaits Sudan's El-Merreikh as its next opponents in the African Champions League.
