Aces Academy invited to participate in South African Cup

Zimbabwe's Aces Youth Academy (AYSA) has been invited to participate in South Africa's Metropolitan Premier Cup in South Africa.

The developmental sides of South African premier league, soccer academies, lower division and amateur clubs are expected to lock horns in next month's Metropolitan Premier Cup.

The 32 team tournament is set to take place over the Easter weekend in April. AYSA has been drawn in Group H with Ajax Cape Town,Milano United and Ariel Sports.

Aces Academy is the brainchild of Swiss expatriate Marc Duvillard, the academy has now become the stewing pot of Zimbabwean football stars. Aces Youth Soccer Academy (AYSA) operates from Lord Malvern School in Waterfalls.

It has produced soccer gems such as Knowledge Musona, Khama Billiat, Lincoln Zvasiya, Abbas Amidu, Norest Mkwezaramba, Brian Mapfumo, George Chigova

The academy employs five coaches; Chris Kunaka (Boys Under-10), Emmanuel Manene (Boys Under-12) and Expense Chitukutuku (Boys Under-17).

Over 50 kids from as young as seven years old all go through their paces on the single pitch in a methodical manner.

The academy has a club house in Waterfalls, where 18 boys and three girls stay.

The club house gives AYSA the opportunity to bring in invite players from as far as Bulawayo and Mutare for trials.

At the moment, 15-year-old Walter Musona, Knowledge's young bother, is the academy's hottest prospect.
