IT'S election season and football is no exception when it comes to giving prevalence to the much anticipated day in the Zimbabwean political landscape.

The Zifa Southern Region League executive has decided to synchronise its mid-season break with the national Harmonised Elections set for 30 July.

The league will take its mid-season break after this weekend's matches.

"We cannot be seen resuming our games on the same weekend that the country holds its Harmonised Elections so our mid-season break will stretch beyond that weekend.

"The extra week will not disrupt our league programme in any way as we can always slot mid-week games in the second half of the season," said league chairman Musa Mandaza.

This weekend teams go into Week 15 round of matches in the 2018 campaign.

All the teams should have played the same number of matches league takes the mid-season break.

Meanwhile, the Zifa Southern Region transfer window period also opened on 1 July, on the same day that Castle Lager Premier Soccer League clubs started buying, selling, loaning out and offloading players.

It's unusual for Division One players to find their way up into the top flight football league and vice versa for PSL players.

Chicken Inn and Highlanders coaches Joey Antipas and Madinda Ndlovu have already hinted that they could be invading Division One clubs to bolster their squads when the transfer window period opens.
